To view an overview of our topic and curriculum coverage click the year group links below. We sometimes use the themes of our topics to provide the platform on which we base our English curriculum; however we teach some genres in English as separate units, following the requirements of the National Curriculum. As our classes are mixed age we ensure the curriculum is covered over a two-year cycle.

Reading and Phonics
We teach phonics and high frequency words in a multi-sensory way following Letters and Sounds. We use materials from a range of publishers, including Jolly Phonics and Read Write Ink. To aid teaching we include interactive games and physical activities in the learning process.
The children are encouraged and helped to read books that are appropriate for their level. Our reading library is cataloged and differentiated using the Accelerated Reader scheme. This is a powerful tool for monitoring and managing independent reading practice while promoting reading for pleasure.
Schools have been asked to explain how they promote British values. You can find more about our approach to British values on our website. Please keep an eye on our Twitter feed for updates and insights of school life.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
At Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Primary and St Joseph’s RC Primary, we believe that inclusive education means providing all pupils with appropriate education and support alongside their peers. The Curriculum is all the planned activities that the school organises in order to promote learning, personal growth and development. Further information can be found in the SEN Information Report.
If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
